Four dead, four missing after tremor hits copper mine in Poland

WARSAW, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Search continued on Wednesday for four miners who went missing after a tremor hit southwestern Poland on Tuesday, said Pawel Markowski, director of the mine's operator KGHM.

A magnitude-3.4 tremor rocked Rudna copper mine on Tuesday evening and killed four miners. The epicenter was 1,500 meters in depth.

According to witnesses, there were 16 people underground when the mine was struck by the earthquake.

Rescue operations are difficult as they are done manually, according to Pawel Markowski.

Polish President Andrzej Duda has sent his condolences to the families of the victims.
