The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 105.33 points, or 0.53 percent, from Thursday to 19,937.15.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 8.23 points, or 0.52 percent, to 1,596.32.
