Eight injured so far in bull run festival in Spain

MADRID, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Two Spaniards were gored and six others injured during the seventh bull run at the famous San Fermin festival in northern Spain, local health authorities reported Thursday.

One men was gored in his right leg and another in the groin.

Six others suffered cuts and bruises from falling during the run, which lasted for two minutes and 40 seconds. All eight have been taken to the hospital.

The main danger was caused when the bulls from the Vejer de la Frontera ranch in southern Spain split into two groups of three, with one group moving rapidly through the hundreds of people running alongside them, while the other group moved more slowly.

The San Fermin celebrations last for nine days and attract around 700,000 visitors a year to the city of Pamplona with 250,000 inhabitants. The event will earn about 150 million euros (about 171 million U.S. dollars), of which around 30 million euros (about 34 million dollars) are spent in the bars and restaurants of Pamplona.

Friday will see the final bull run of this year and marks the last day of the celebration.
