Fire, explosion deaths drop in Vietnam in eight months
HO CHI MINH CITY, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- A total of 2,915 fires and explosions broke out across Vietnam in the first eight months of this year, killing 71 people and injuring 188 others, while leaving losses of some 1,186 billion Vietnamese dong (52.5 million U.S. dollars), the country's Fire Prevention and Fight Department said Friday.
In August alone, Vietnam faced 256 fires and explosions which claimed 11 lives and injured 29 people, and caused losses of 49.2 billion Vietnamese dong (2.2 million U.S. dollars).
Among the incidents in August, a single fire at a cake production base in Hanoi capital killed eight people and injured two others.
In the first eight months of last year, Vietnam experienced 2,268 fires and explosions which killed 79 people, injured 209 others, and caused losses of 1,026 billion Vietnamese dong (45.4 million U.S. dollars), the department said.[ Editor: meng ]
