At least 2 killed as powerful storm pounds Northeast U.S.
WASHINGTON, May 15 (Xinhua) -- At least two people have been killed by extreme weather that hit Northeast United States Tuesday.
A man was killed when a tree crushed his truck in the state of Connecticut, according to the mayor of Danbury Mark Boughton, while a 11-year-old New York girl died in a similar incident.
Boughton told local residence to stay inside until the torrential rain and hail abated.
Several counties in New York state were declared to be in a state of emergency, and the National Guard has been mobilized to remove fallen trees and repair the power grid.[ Editor: WPY ]
