He Guiying: inheritor of the Jinuo drum dance

我叫何桂英，是基诺族。住在景洪市基诺乡。

I'm He Guiying from the Jinuo ethnic group. I live in Jinuo Township in Jinghong City.

我是国家级非物质文化遗产基诺大鼓舞国家级代表性传承人。

I'm a national-level representative inheritor of the Jinuo drum dance, a national intangible cultural heritage.

过去我们基诺族一般跳大鼓都是在过年过节的时候，祭祀活动时候才能跳，

In the past, we only performed the drum dance at lunar new year festivals, and sacrificial activities.

但是这几年因为是文化的传承，文化的发展，我们的基诺大鼓舞就随时可以跳，不管是在过节。

But in recent years, due to cultural inheritance and development, we can dance at any time.

一般我们村寨几乎是每天晚上都在跳基诺大鼓舞，因为是要教我们的徒弟，要教我们的学员。

We dance almost every night in our village, because we need to teach our apprentices, students, and children.

还有那些小孩，大人跳了，小孩在一边就会学着跳，都会跳基诺大鼓舞。

When adults dance, children learn to dance by their side, so all of them can perform the drum dance.

我们基诺族是1979年被国家确认为最后一个少数民族。

Our Jinuo ethnic group, officially recognized in 1979, is the last one of the 56 ethnic groups of China.

是从原始社会一步跨入社会主义的一个民族，

It's an ethnic group that turned directly from a primitive society into a socialist one.

过去是如果这家人能穿上一件衣服是很不容易的，

It was by no means easy for a family to get dressed in the past.

在过去我们基诺族，因为我们是靠山吃山的，都是靠山里面的，

Since we Jinuo people were dependent on our surrounding mountains,

如果我家里面人能够到山里面去找那些野味，就可以得吃，

we could have food only if our family members could hunt some in the mountains.

但是我家里面如果是不会打猎的，去找山上的猎物，我家是永远都得不到肉吃的，只是靠着野菜生活。

If no one could hunt in our family, we would never get meat to eat, but survive merely on potherbs.

现在我们住的，有些经济条件很好的人家就住别墅，家家都是盖平房，

As for dwelling, every family has built its own bungalow now. Families in good economic conditions are living in cottages.

生活也越来越好。家家户户有些几乎都有车子，都有电视。

Our living conditions get better and better. Almost every household owns an automobile and television.

现在有4G的网络，做什么生意都很方便的。

And it’s very convenient to do business with the 4G network.

现在有种茶的，有搞手工艺品专业合作社的，

Now villagers make their livings in different ways. Some of them plant tea, some run specialized cooperatives of handicrafts,

也有养殖的，也有搞旅游的，还有农家乐的，特别多，

some are involved in breeding industry or tourism, and some run guesthouses.

就是我们基诺族变化得非常大，生活过得越来越红火。

Great changes have taken place among the Jinuo people, and our lives are getting much better.
