Su Chunfa: inheritor of the Jing Duxianqin Art

我叫苏春发，是京族。

I’m Su Chunfa, a member of the Jing ethnic group.

我们京族有三岛，巫头、山心、万尾岛，

The main concentrations of Jing people are three islands – Wutou, Shanxin, and Wanwei.

我是万尾岛的京族哈亭的亭长。

I’m the head of Hating (a site for local Jing people to gather and celebrate festivals) of Wanwei Island.

京族是我国唯一的海洋民族，

Jing is the only maritime ethnic group in China.

我们京族人与海为生，与海为伴。

We live on the sea, and accompany with it.

京族的文化底蕴也非常之好，

The Jing ethnic culture is rich and profound.

国家级非物质文化遗产有两项，

We preserve two national-level intangible cultural heritages.

一个（是）京族哈节，一个是独弦琴。

One is the Jing Hajie Festival, and the other is duxianqin (single-string Chinese lute).

我是国家级非物质文化遗产京族独弦琴艺术代表性传承人。

I’m a representative inheritor of the Jing Duxianqin Art.

独弦琴是京族文化的标志之一，

Duxianqin is one of the icons of the Jing culture.

有京族就有独弦琴。

Where there’re Jing people, there’re duxianqin.

独弦琴演奏的声音特别美妙、灵活，

The sound of duxianqin is beautiful and euphonious.

只有一根弦靠摇杆千变万化，

There’s only one string in a duxianqin. The player uses the rocking bar to control its tone.

跟什么乐器都合得来。

Duxianqin can harmonize with any other instruments.

古时候我们京族人就利用弹琴、对歌来谈恋爱，

In the past, Jing people express love with music of duxianqin and antiphonal songs.

如果你不会唱歌、弹琴，你娶不到好的老婆。

If one could neither sing nor play duxianqin, he’d never find a perfect match.

京族人热爱文化，

We Jing people love our culture.

以文化来发展旅游，以旅游来发展经济，

By developing cutural tourism, we boost the economy.

现在来我们这个金滩旅游的人越来越多，

Now more and more people take trips to our Jintan beach.

很多游客都为京族文化而来。

Many tourists come all the way here for our Jing culture.

他们喜欢看京族的舞蹈、唱歌，喜欢听京族独弦琴。

They enjoy our songs and dances, as well as our music of duxianqin.

我从5岁跟家叔放牛学琴，我一个人学，

I started to learn duxianqin from my uncle at the age of 5. I’m the only one of my fellows who sticks to duxianqin.

我小孙女在我的影响下三岁跟我学，

Under my influence, my granddaughter started to learn duxianqin at 3.

现在我的学生也很多了。

I have many students now.

每个京族村都有传习基地，每个京族学校都有传习基地，

There’re places to learn duxianqin at every Jing school, in every Jing village.

发展得这么好，我就放心了。

I’m greatly relieved seeing the popularity of the duxianqin art.
