BEIJING, January 11(Guangming Online) —The live show “A taste of Beijing” jointly founded by the Information Office of Beijing Municipality and Guangming Online was shot at Beijing Arts and Crafts Museum, Beijing, capital of China, Jan. 11, 2020. Quinn, a Chinese journalist from Guangming Online and Brice, an African host from Star Times, co-hosted this show. With the help of the narrator, they successfully popularized some facts about the museum and traditional arts and crafts of Beijing to the audience.

Beijing Arts and Crafts Museum is the first non-state-owned museum of arts and crafts in Beijing, which was founded by Beijing Gongmei Group in 1987. The collection here has a total of 25 categories, including 3,044 “National Grade-1 to Grade-3 Cultural Relics”, with a historical span of “from the first three dynasties in China to the present day”. With “palace arts” and “folk crafts” as two main display zones, this museum is currently the largest professional exhibition hall in China, which has a complete series of collections and the most influential and authoritative works.

Eight representative traditional arts and crafts of Beijing, also known as “Yanjing bajue” in Mandarin, were presented in the show, including jade carving, cloisonné, carved lacquer ware, gold-inlaid lacquer ware, filigree inlaid metal art, palace carpet, and embroidery. Besides, anecdotes about these precious collections were also told by the narrator, which aroused great interest of the hosts. National gifts can also be seen in this museum for Beijing Gongmei Group is in charge of producing many national gifts over the years.

At the end of the live show, two hosts also learned how to paint inside snuff bottles under the guidance of Gao Dongsheng, a national-level inheritor of the technique of snuff bottle interior painting, a project on the national list of intangible cultural heritage.
