Spain's Andujar advances to Rio Open last 16

RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Spaniard Pablo Andujar beat compatriot Fernando Verdasco in straight sets to advance to the last 16 of the Rio Open on Monday.

Andujar prevailed 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 28 minutes on the outdoor clay of the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro.

The 34-year-old's next opponent will be another Spaniard, Pedro Martinez, who advanced by overcoming Bolivian Hugo Dellien 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.

In other matches on Monday, Chile's Cristian Garin beat Slovakia's Andrej Martin 4-6, 7-5, 7-6, Argentinian Federico Delbonis overcame Roberto Carballes 6-2, 6-4 and Federico Coria, also of Argentina, defeated Frenchman Corentin Moutet 1-6, 7-6, 7-6.

The Rio Open is the only ATP 500 event in South America, offering total prize money of 1.92 million US dollars.
