Chinese shares close higher Monday
BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.75 percent at 3,379.25 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.06 percent higher at 13,657.31 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices shrank to nearly 1.16 trillion yuan (about 166.5 billion U.S. dollars) from 1.26 trillion yuan the previous trading day.
Most stocks edged up, with gainers outnumbering losers 1,006 to 419 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,470 to 718 in Shenzhen.
Securities firms were among the biggest winners, with share prices of the China Securities Co. Ltd. up 8.41 percent at 59.27 yuan.
Shares of home appliance companies saw a rise. Guangzhou Holike Creative Home Co. Ltd. saw its share price rise by the daily limit of 10 percent.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.53 percent to close at 2,735.26 points.
