Men's singles battle between childhood friends marks Denmark Open 2020 Finals

COPENHAGEN, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Anders Antonsen defeated his childhood friend Rasmus Gemke 18-21, 21-19, 21-12 in the final of the badminton Denmark Open 2020 here on Sunday.

The game between the two Danes began as a back and forth struggle. Gemke finally took the ascendancy and won the first set with four consecutive row.

However, his dominance proved short-lived, Antonsen adjusted his game-plan in the second set and swamped Gemke's tenaciousness play.

With one set each, Antonsen came into the third set with even more energy, propelling him to victory as his opponent withered with cramp.

The women's finals saw Carolina Marin's attacking tides defused by the very defensive Nozomi Okuhara.

Despite some brilliant play, Marin's overall performance was haphazard and a slew of unforced errors in the end reduced her ability to produce one of her famous comebacks.

In stark contrast, a methodical and uninspiring performance from Okuhara proved to be the magic ingredient that gave the Japanese player victory in her first final since November 2018, 21-19, 21-17.

In the men's doubles, English pair Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge overcame the Russian duo of Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov to take the title, 20-22, 21-17, 21-18.

Number one seeds Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota beat their second-seeded compatriots Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara in the women's doubles final 21-10, 16-21, 21-18.

German pair of Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Herttrich defeated their English opponents Chris Adcock and Gabrielle Adcock 18-21, 21-11, 21-14 in the mixed double final. Enditem
