Dragon Boat Festival celebrated in New Zealand city with Chinese culture show
AUCKLAND, New Zealand, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese communities in Auckland, New Zealand celebrated the Dragon Boat Festival with demonstration of Chinese culture on Saturday.
The Dragon Boat Festival gala featuring music, dances, Peking Opera, and tasting of Zongzi, or rice dumplings, won the audience's enthusiasm and applause.
Former New Zealand Member of Parliament Jami-Lee Matenga Ross along with several hundred New Zealanders also attended the event.
The organizer of the event said the gala will further consolidate and enrich people-to-people exchanges and mutual learning.
The Dragon Boat Festival lands on the fifth day of the fifth month on the Chinese lunar calendar to remember ancient Chinese poet Qu Yuan and falls on Monday this year. People eat Zongzi, and take part in or watch dragon boat racing. Enditem
