U.S. animation comedy "Peter Rabbit" sequel tops Chinese box office
BEIJING, June 15 (Xinhua) -- U.S. animation comedy "Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway" led the Chinese box office chart on Monday, the last day of China's three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, according to the China Movie Data Information Network.
The film pocketed 27.5 million yuan (about 4.3 million U.S. dollars) on Monday, the fourth day of its screening, the network said Tuesday. The film is a sequel to a 2018 adaptation of the classic tale of a rebellious rabbit trying to sneak into a farmer's vegetable garden by beloved British children's author Beatrix Potter.
The latest production follows the eponymous protagonist's adventure to the big city where he finds his true self.
Domestic sports comedy "Never Stop" came in second, raking in 24.1 million yuan. It was followed by Disney's crime comedy film "Cruella," which ended the ninth day of its screening with daily earnings of 12.4 million yuan. Enditem
