6 paramilitary troopers wounded in blast in central Indian state

NEW DELHI, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- At least six paramilitary troopers belonging to Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were wounded Saturday in a blast that took place in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, police said.

The blast went off at a railway station in Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh.

"Today morning at 6:30 (local time) an accidental blast took place at platform No. 2 of Raipur railway station. In the blast six CRPF personnel were wounded," a police official said. "The wounded personnel were immediately removed to hospital, where the condition of one was stated to be critical."

According to police, the CRPF men were handling detonator boxes at the railway station when the blast took place.

"CRPF personnel were shifting boxes of detonators from one coach to another of a special CRPF train. During the process suddenly one box fell on the floor causing the blast," the official said. "Preliminary investigations suggest a box containing an igniter set fell on the floor detonating the detonators."

Reports said police teams rushed to the spot and sealed off the area following the explosion.
