BAB authorized to provide accreditation certification

Bangladesh Accreditation Board, a wing of industries ministry, attained the authority of providing internationally accepted accreditation certificate to the testing laboratories in the country.

Industries minister Amir Hossain Amu on Sunday revealed it while visiting the BAB office in the city.

The meeting of Mutual Recognition Arrangement Council of Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation held in Hong Kong recently conferred the authority to BAB.

Speaking on the occasion, Amir Hossain Amu said BAB was established under the directive of prime minister Sheikh Hasina to maintain the qualities of exported items when Bangladesh struggled for image crisis owing to exporting shrimp mixing iron in fiscal 1994-95.

He said international acknowledgment of BAB’s laboratory activities would boost the export of Bangladeshi products.

Directing the authority concerned to uphold the accreditation authorization, the industries minister hoped if the quality is maintained international buyers would take testing certificate from Bangladesh.
