Ancient tomb unearthed in N China's Hebei

SHIJIAZHUANG, July 29 (Xinhua) -- An ancient tomb dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) has been unearthed in Fucheng County in north China's Hebei Province.

More than 20 items of cultural relics including a white porcelain bowl, tri-colored glazed pottery, a bronze mirror, a jade ox, a porcelain rabbit, a red pottery pot, and hundreds of Kaiyuan Tongbao copper coins, were unearthed from the tomb.

The tomb building design and structure, red pottery items, and copper coins with marks of Kaiyuan, all indicate the middle and late Tang Dynasty, dating back more than 1,000 years.

Qi Hongxia, director of the cultural relics protection institute in Fucheng, said the tomb provides historical evidence of civilian funeral customs in the central Hebei plain area during the Tang Dynasty.

The tomb is located in a river channel in Yangzhongshu Village and was found during river dredging work.

The tomb has two connected rooms, both with wooden coffins. The main room was for a couple, and the other was for a female.
