Restaurant provides free meals to community workers as COVID-19 outbreak hits Shijiazhuang

Wang Xinjian prepares lunch at his restaurant in Shijiazhuang City, capital of north China's Hebei Province, Jan. 11, 2021. It was way beyond Wang Xinjian and his wife Zhang Qiqi's imagination that a COVID-19 outbreak hit Shijiazhuang barely one month after their restaurant opened to customers at a residential compound in the city. With most employees of the restaurant settled in their dormitory rooms, the couple, together with their chef and driver, now provides packed meals to community workers, and delivers grocery for their neighbors, all free of charge. Despite of the heavy monthly overhead expenditure of 90,000 yuan (about 13,400 U.S. dollars) and zero revenue with the restaurant, the couple is still full of hope, expecting to contribute to solidarity among the neighborhood amid hardship, and that their family business would soon resume normal operation.
