ABUJA, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian police on Monday said at least 12 gunmen were killed in a raid aimed at routing out kidnappers and bandits in the northeastern state of Bauchi.

Ahmad Wakil, a spokesman for police in Bauchi, said in a statement that four hideouts of the gunmen were raided by police and other security agencies early Monday in Alkaleri local government area, triggering an exchange of gunfire.

Wakil said that security agencies killed 12 criminals during the fight, while others with possible gunshot wounds ran into nearby bushes.
