[Overview] Phnom Penh is the capital and largest city of Cambodia and also the political, economic, cultural, religious and transportation center of the country. Located at the confluence of the Mekong River, the Tonlé Sap River and the Bassac River, the city covers an area of 678.46 square kilometers and has a resident population of about 1.6 million.

[Politics] Phnom Penh is governed by the city council and the municipal administration, and the city is divided into 14 districts. The City Council was established in May 2009 and the councilors are elected by citizens. The municipal administration has one governor, one first vice governor and five vice governors. The incumbent Governor Khuong Sreng took office in June 2017.

[Economy] The major industries of Phnom Penh include agriculture, construction, tourism and light industry.

[Culture and Education] Royal University of Phnom Penh is the largest and oldest institution of higher education in Cambodia.

[Relations with Beijing] Beijing and Phnom Penh officially became sister cities on May 21, 2018, when China and Cambodia celebrated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. The two cities have had fruitful exchanges and cooperation in such areas as economy and trade and municipal management. Investment and Trade: Beijing Enterprises Group Company Limited, Beijing Urban Construction Group and Beijing Tong Ren Tang all have cooperation projects in Phnom Penh. The China-Cambodia Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone, developed and operated by Beijing Enterprises Group Company Limited, is a comprehensive special economic zone approved by the Cambodian government and is expected to become a new landmark in the country once completed. Municipal Administration: In September 2019, Phnom Penh sent representatives to participate in the Belt and Road municipal administration training program for sister cities in Beijing. During the program, participants observed Beijing's latest achievements in urban planning and construction and shared their experience and practices in urban planning, construction and management.​

金边市(柬埔寨)

【概况】金边市是柬埔寨首都和最大城市,柬政治、经济、文化、宗教和交通中心。位于湄公河、洞里萨河及巴萨河的交汇处。面积678.46平方公里,常住人口约160万。

【政治】金边市管理机构包括市议会和市政府。全市下辖14个区。市议会于2009年5月成立,议员通过民选产生。市政府设市长1名,第一副市长1名,副市长5名。现任市长坤盛于2017年6月就职。

【经济】金边市主要产业包括农业、建筑、旅游和轻工业。

【文化教育】金边皇家大学是柬埔寨最大、最古老的高等教育机构。

【两市交往】2018年5月21日,在中柬建交60周年之际,北京市与金边市正式建立友好城市关系。两市在经贸、市政管理等领域的交流合作成果显著。经贸合作:北控集团、北京城建集团、北京同仁堂等企业均在金边市设有合作项目,其中北控集团开发运营的中柬金边经济特区是柬埔寨政府批准的综合性经济特区,建成后有望成为柬埔寨新地标。市政管理:2019年9月,金边市派员参加了我市举办的“一带一路”友好城市市政管理培训班项目,参会者实地考察我市城市规划建设的最新成果,并分享各自城市在城市规划、建设、管理等领域的经验和做法。
