[Overview] Tehran is the capital city of Iran. Located at the southern side of Mount Elbrus, the city covers an area of 700 square kilometers and has a population of 11 million.

[Politics] Tehran has is governed by the city council and the city government. The city council consists of 31 members for a term of four years, and the mayor is elected by the council for the same term of office. There are 22 districts under Tehran's administration. The incumbent Mayor Pirooz Hanachi took office in November 2018.

[Economy] Tehran is the center of Iran's economy, trade and services. Major industries of the city include automobiles, electronics, cement and building materials, foodstuff, textiles and garment, chemicals, and defense products.

[Culture and Education] As the educational and technological center of Iran, Tehran is home to the country's most prestigious universities, as well as a host of cultural centers, libraries, art galleries and museums. The city hosted the 7th Asian Games in 1974 and thus is the first city in the Middle East to have hosted the games.

[Relations with Beijing] Beijing and Tehran officially became sister cities on February 27, 2014.

The two sides have carried out friendly exchanges and cooperation in such areas as urban management and infrastructure construction. In February 2014, then Tehran Mayor Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf visited Beijing as was invited. During the visit, he met with leaders of Beijing and visited Beijing Municipal Transportation Operations Coordination Center and the exhibition hall of Zhongguancun Science Park. Beijing Urban Construction Group participated in the construction of Tehran subway lines 1, 2 and 4.

【概况】德黑兰市是伊朗首都，位于厄尔布鲁士山南麓，面积700平方公里，人口1100万。

【政治】德黑兰市政体制包括市议会和市政府。市议会由31名议员组成，任期4年。市长由市议会选举产生，任期4年。全市下辖22个区。现任市长皮鲁兹·哈那池于2018年11月就职。

【经济】德里兰市是伊朗经济、贸易和服务业中心，主要产业包括汽车、电子、水泥和建筑材料、食品、纺织服装、化工、国防产品等。

【文化教育】德黑兰市是伊朗教育和科技中心，国家最知名的文理科高校均位于德黑兰市内。该市拥有数量众多的文化中心、图书馆、画廊和博物馆，并曾于1974年举办第七届亚运会，是中东地区第一座举办亚运会的城市。

【两市交往】2014年2月27日，北京市与德黑兰市正式建立友好城市关系。

两市在城市管理与基础设施建设等领域进行了友好交流与合作。2014年2月，时任德黑兰市市长加利巴夫应北京市邀请来访，会见了市领导，并参观了北京市交通运行监测调度中心及中关村科技园区展示中心。北京城建集团参与了德黑兰地铁一、二、四号线建设工程。
