Doha（Qatar）

[Overview] Doha, the capital city of Qatar, is located in the central part of the east coast of the Qatar Peninsula. The city covers an area of 132 square kilometers and has a population of 1.54 million.

[Politics] Doha does not have a mayor. The city is governed by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, while the Qatar Central Municipal Council is responsible for offering advice on municipal management to all cities in the country.

[Economy] As the economic center of Qatar, Doha hosts most of the natural gas liquefaction, petrochemical, power generation, cement manufacturing, plastics, fish processing and seawater desalination facilities of the country. It is also a major port in the Persian Gulf with its deep-water port completed in 1970.

[Culture and Education] Doha is home to the National Museum of Qatar, which presents the history of the country, as well as Qatar University, the largest institution of higher learning in the country.

[Relations with Beijing] Beijing and Doha officially became sister cities on June 23, 2008. On October 22, 2006, part of the torch relay for the Asian Games held in Doha occurred in Beijing. Altogether 89 torch bearers participated in the event, including outstanding figures from all walks of life. The two cities also shared their experience in security and volunteer management for large events.

【概况】多哈市是卡塔尔首都，位于卡塔尔半岛东海岸的中部，面积132平方公里，人口154万。

【政治】多哈市不设市长职务，其城市管理职能由国家市政与环境部负责，卡塔尔中央市政委员会负责向国内各城市提供市政管理等方面的咨询及建议。

【经济】多哈市是卡塔尔的经济中心，集中全国大多数的天然气液化、石油化工、发电、水泥、塑料制品、鱼类加工、海水淡化等工业。多哈市还是波斯湾著名港口之一，1970年建成深水港。

【文化教育】反映卡塔尔建国历史的卡塔尔国家博物馆及卡塔尔规模最大的高等教育机构卡塔尔大学均位于多哈市。

【两市交往】2008年6月23日，北京市与多哈市正式建立友好城市关系。

2006年10月22日，多哈亚运会火炬接力北京传递活动在京举行，此次传递共有89名火炬手参加，其中包含了北京各行各业的优秀人士。

两市还围绕大型活动安全保障和志愿者组织进行了经验交流。
