[Overview] Hanoi is the capital city and the political, economic and cultural center of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. With a long history, this time-honored capital covers an area of 3,340 square kilometers and has a population of 7.65 million.

[Politics] Hanoi is one of the five municipalities directly under the central government of Vietnam, with the Municipal People's Committee being its highest executive body. Chu Ngoc Anh, the incumbent Chairman of Hanoi Municipal People's Committee, was elected in September 2020.

[Economy] Hanoi is the commercial center of Vietnam. Its main industries include agriculture, textiles, metallurgy, construction and tourism.

[Culture and Tourism] As the educational center of Vietnam, Hanoi gathers about 60% of the country's scientific research personnel. Most of the universities in the city are publicly funded, including prestigious ones such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology and University of Languages and International Studies. As an important tourist destination, the city also boasts the largest number of scenic spots and historical sites in the country, including more than 600 pagodas and temples. Main tourist attractions include the One-Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature, the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Hanoi Opera House, and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Known as the "spring city of flowers" with beautiful scenery, Hanoi is dotted with lakes and graced by green perennial trees and blooming flowers.

[Relations with Beijing] Beijing and Hanoi officially became sister cities on October 5th, 1994. The two cities have had friendly exchanges and cooperation in tourism, culture, education, and other fields since then.

Culture and Tourism: In May 2017, Beijing held a tourism promotion event in Hanoi centering on the theme of Charming Beijing to present the ancient yet modern city's tourism resources such as world heritage sites, regimen based on traditional Chinese medicine, excellent museums and cultural facilities, sports events, art shows, and study tour programs. In January 2019, a tourism photo exhibition and public day event themed "Charming Beijing" was held in Hanoi, giving an all-round presentation of the new Beijing featuring both ancient oriental beauty and modern fashion.

People-to-people Ties and Education: In October 2019, Hanoi sent representatives to participate in the Beijing Sister City Youth Camp, during which the participants deepened mutual understanding by sharing their own cities' practices and experience in the fields of science and technology, culture and green development. Moreover, Hanoi has sent officials to participate in Beijing's Chinese Training Program for Officials from Sister Cities since 2010. 

河内市(越南)

【概况】河内市是越南社会主义共和国首都,政治、经济、文化中心,也是历史古都。面积3340平方公里,人口765万人。

【政治】河内是越南5个中央直辖市之一。市人民委员会是最高行政机构,现任河内市人民委员会主席朱玉英于2020年9月当选。

【经济】河内市是越南全国的商业中心,主要产业包括农业、纺织、金属冶炼、建筑和旅游业等。

【文化旅游】河内是越南教育中心,全国约60%的科研人员聚集于此。河内大部分高校是公立学校,河内理工大学、河内外国语大学等均为越重点公立高校。作为越主要旅游城市,河内名胜古迹数量居全国之冠,有600多处塔和寺庙。主要景点包括独塔寺、文庙、升龙皇城、河内歌剧院及胡志明纪念堂等。市内湖泊星罗棋布,终年树木常青,鲜花盛开,风光秀丽,有“万花春城”之称。

【两市交往】1994年10月5日,北京市与河内市正式建立友好城市关系。两市在文化、旅游、教育等领域进行了友好交流与合作。

文化旅游:2017年5月,我市在河内市成功举办了“魅力北京 畅游古今”北京旅游推介交流会,系统展示我市旅游资源、世界遗产、中医养生、精品文博、体育赛事、文化演出,游学旅游等专题类特色旅游产品。2019年1月,以“魅力北京”为主题的北京文化旅游图片展及公众日活动在河内市举行,展示了东方古韵与时尚现代交汇融合的新北京、新风貌。

人文教育:2019年10月,河内市派代表参加我市举办的友城青年营活动,参会者分享了各自城市在科技、文化、绿色发展等方面的做法和经验,增进了相互了解。此外,自2010年以来,河内市选派官员参加我市举办的“北京国际友好城市官员汉语培训班”。
