[Overview] Bucharest is the capital and largest city of Romania, as well as its political, economic, industrial, cultural, and transportation center. Situated in the southeastern corner of the Romanian Plain, the city has an average elevation of 85 meters. It covers an area of 228 square kilometers and has a population of 2.1 million.

[Politics] Bucharest is governed by the City Government, the General Council and the county-level government. The City Government is the executive body of the city and has real power. It comprises one Mayor, two Deputy Mayors and one Secretary-General. The Mayor is directly elected by the citizens for a term of four years. The Deputy Mayors are elected by the General Council based on the seats held by political parties. The General Council has 55 members. The county-level government is a special agency appointed by the central government and is responsible for supervising the implementation of the central government's policies and laws at the sub-national level. At the county-level, there are one prefect and two deputy prefects, all appointed by the central government with no real power. The city is divided into six administrative sectors, each of which has its own government and council. The sector mayor and councilors are elected by the citizens of the sector. The incumbent Mayor of Bucharest, Gabriela Firea, was elected in June 2016.

[Economy] Bucharest is the economic and industrial center of Romania. Service and industrial sectors are the mainstay of its economy. Almost all major Romanian companies and international companies have their head offices in the city.

[Culture and Education] There are many museums, art galleries, and theaters in Bucharest, and the city's landmark buildings include the Palace of the Parliament and the Arcul de Triumf.

[Relations with Beijing] On June 21, 2005, Beijing and Bucharest officially became sister cities. They have actively engaged in cultural and educational exchanges.

Culture: The teachers and students of the Beijing Dance Academy (BDA) have visited Romania several times for the Happy Chinese New Year activities. In June 2019, BDA teachers and students participated in the “Music and Tradition” International Folk Art Festival in Bucharest.

Education: China University of Political Science and Law opened a Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest.

【概况】布加勒斯特市是罗马尼亚首都,罗政治、经济、工业、文化、交通中心和最大城市。它位于罗东南部平原,平均海拔85米。面积228平方公里,人口210万。

【政治】布市管理机构分为市政府、市议会和大区政府三大部门。其中,市政府为行政管理执行机关,具有实权,设市长1人、副市长2人、秘书长1人。市长由市民直接选举产生,任期4年,副市长由市议会根据党派席位推选。市议会有55名议员。大区政府为中央政府派出机构,负责监督中央政府执政纲领及各项法律在地方的落实情况,设大区区长1人、副区长2人,均由中央政府任命,实为中央政府在地方的特派员,无实权。布市全市划分为6个区,分别设区政府和区议会,区长和区议员由本区选民选举产生。现任市长尼古索·丹于2020年10月就职。

【经济】布市为罗马尼亚经济和工业中心,主要经济支柱为服务业和工业。此外,几乎所有的罗大企业总部和国际大公司在罗总部均位于布市。

【文化教育】布市博物馆、艺术馆、影剧院众多,地标式建筑物包括议会宫、凯旋门等。

【两市交往】2005年6月21日,我市与布加勒斯特市正式建立友好城市关系,双方文化、教育领域交流较为活跃。

文化领域:北京舞蹈学院多次组织师生在罗马尼亚参加“欢乐春节”等活动。2019年6月,北舞师生在布加勒斯特市参加了“音乐与传统”国际民俗艺术节。

教育领域:中国政法大学在布加勒斯特大学开设了孔子学院。
