[Overview] Kiev is the capital of Ukraine. Located in central Eastern Europe, on the banks of the Dnieper River, the city covers an area of 827 square kilometers and has a population of 3 million.

[Politics] Kiev is governed by the city council and the city government. Members of the city council are directly elected by the citizens and its chairman is elected from the members for a term of four years. The city government is the executive body of the city. There are 10 districts under the jurisdiction of the city, and the mayor is elected by local popular vote. The incumbent mayor, Vitali Klitschko, took office in June 2014.

[Economy] Kiev is the country's industrial center with a sound industrial system. Food processing, light industry, metal processing, precision machine manufacturing, electronics, and chemistry are the mainstay of the city's industrial sector. Kiev is also an important transportation hub of Ukraine with well-developed road, railway, aviation, water, and intracity transportation. Boats can reach the Black Sea along the Dnieper River.

[Culture and Education] Kiev is the country's scientific research and education center. It is home to more than 200 institutions of higher education, secondary vocational training centers, and other education institutions. Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is a comprehensive university in Ukraine, and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is the largest scientific research institute in the country. There are many libraries, museums, theaters and cinemas, as well as folk choirs, symphony orchestras, ballet troupes, and circuses with high artistic attainments in the city, for which it is known as the “Cradle of the Ukrainian culture”.

[Relations with Beijing] On December 13, 1993, Beijing and Kiev officially became sister cities. Since then, the two cities have engaged in exchanges and cooperation in the fields of investment, trade, culture, and landscaping.

Investment and Trade: In 2012, the Shevchenko District of Kiev participated in the Third Beijing Wangfujing International Brands Festival.

Culture: In 2010, the Ukrainian Embassy in China and the Culture and Arts Department of Kiev held the Beijing-Kiev Art Exhibition in Beijing, displaying 86 paintings of contemporary Ukrainian artists. The exhibition received positive response from Beijing residents.

Urban Planning: In 2019, representatives of Kiev visited Beijing to participate in the Belt and Road Sister City Urban Planning Exchange Project, which was launched to promote the exchanges and cooperation between the two cities in the field of urban planning.

Landscaping: In 2013, Beijing Gardening and Greening Bureau and the Kiev Greening Committee signed a cooperation agreement on establishing a platform for the exchanges between landscaping companies and sharing landscaping experience between the two cities.

【概况】基辅市是乌克兰首都,位于东欧中部,第聂伯河河畔,面积827平方公里,人口300万。

【政治】基辅市城市管理机构分为城市委员会和市政府。城市委员会相当于市议会,成员由市民直接选举产生,主席从委员会成员中选举产生,任期均为4年。市政府为行政管理执行机构。全市下辖10个区,市长通过市民投票选举产生。现任市长维塔利·克利奇科于2014年6月就职。

【经济】基辅市是全国工业中心,工业体系完善,主要工业有食品加工、轻工业、金属加工、精密机器制造、电子、化学等。基辅市是乌克兰重要的交通枢纽,公路、铁路、航空、水运发达,市内交通便利,船只沿第聂伯河可达黑海。

【文化教育】基辅市是全国科研和教育中心,拥有200多个高等教育机构、中等职业技术培训等各类机构。基辅大学是乌克兰的综合性大学,乌克兰科学院是全乌最大科研机构。全市拥有众多各类图书馆以及多所博物馆、剧院、电影院;民间合唱团、交响乐团、芭蕾舞团和马戏团等文艺团体,艺术水平很高,被称为“乌克兰文化摇篮”。

【两市交往】1993年12月13日,北京市与基辅市正式建立友好城市关系。结好以来,两市在经贸、文化、园林绿化等领域开展了交流合作。

经贸交往:2012年,基辅市舍甫琴科区参加第三届北京王府井国际品牌节。

文化交往:2010年,乌克兰驻华使馆和基辅市文化艺术总局在京举办“北京—基辅艺术家作品展”,展出86幅乌克兰当代艺术绘画作品,受到北京市民的欢迎。

城市规划:2019年,基辅市代表来京参加“一带一路”友好城市城市规划交流项目,推动了两市在城市规划领域的交流合作。

园林绿化:2013年,北京市园林绿化局与基辅市绿化建设委员会签署合作协议,双方就为园林绿化企业搭建交流平台、分享园林绿化经验等方面达成一致意见。
