New York City(the United States)

[Overview] New York City (NYC) is the largest American city and also the largest financial, commercial, trade, cultural, and media center in the United States. It is located at the mouth of the Hudson River in northeastern US, southeastern New York State,, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. NYC has the highest population density of any American city, with about 8.398 million people living in an area of 1,214 square kilometers.

[Politics] NYC is governed by the city council and the city government. The city council is composed of 51 members from each of the city's 51 council districts, and the term of office of council members is four years. The speaker of the New York City Council is elected by council members for a term of four years. The elected officials at the city government include one mayor, one comptroller, and one public advocate. They are elected by citizens for a term of four years. The Comptroller is the City's Chief Financial Officer. The Public Advocate has the power to introduce legislation, supervise government agencies, act as citizens' connection to city government, and serve as acting mayor when the position of mayor becomes vacant. The current mayor, Bill de Blasio, was first elected in January 2014 and re-elected in November 2017.

[Economy] NYC is the economic, financial and commercial center of the US, and one of the three major financial centers in the world. The city's pillar industries are finance, high technology, real estate, insurance, and health care. The tertiary sector accounts for 89.9 percent of the city's economy, and the main service industries are legal services, accounting, finance, and management consulting. Silicon Alley refers to the growing group of high-tech firms located in New York City, especially in Manhattan.

[Culture and Education] NYC has rich educational and cultural resources. It has more than 120 institutions of higher learning, including Columbia University, Cooper Union, Fordham University, New York University, and New York Institute of Technology, more than 2,000 arts and cultural institutions, and more than 500 galleries. New York City is the world's center for television, advertising, music, newspapers, and book publishing, and North America's largest media market.

[Transportation] New York City's public transportation system is composed of subways, intercity railways, buses and ferries, and about 46 percent of the population of NYC uses the public transportation system. The city's bus network covers all its administrative districts and is connected with the subway to form a convenient transportation network. There are three major airports in NYC. They are JFK International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport. New York Harbor, a natural deep water harbor, is the busiest port in North America.

[Relations with Beijing] On February 25, 1980, Beijing and New York City established a sister city relationship. In 2007, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg visited Beijing and signed the memorandum on strengthening global partnership with the then Mayor of Beijing Guo Jinlong.

Investment and Trade: Work at Universal Beijing Resort, an important project in Beijing, is proceeding full steam ahead. The New York-based NBC Universal Group is the main licensor of intellectual property rights related to the project. In 2015, the signing ceremony of the joint venture agreement for the project was held at the New York headquarters of NBC Universal Group. With work progressing smoothly, the park is expected to open in 2021.

City Management: In 2017, the NYC delegation attended the Beijing International Forum for Metropolitan Clean Air Actions. In 2018, the New York Department of Transportation sent a delegation to attend the World Metropolitan Transport Development Forum held in Beijing.

Culture: In 2016 and 2017, Beijing successfully held a series of events to celebrate the Chinese New Year in New York City. In 2018, Beijing held the Mid-Autumn Festival tourism promotion event in the New York City Hall. In 2019, representatives of art institutions in New York, including Metropolitan Opera, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and Julia Conservatory, attended the Beijing Forum for Performing Arts.

【政治】纽约市管理机构包括市议会和市政府。市议会由全市51个选区各推选1名议员组成,任期4年。议长由议员选举产生,任期4年。市政府设市长1名,审计长1名,公共利益协调官1名,由市民选举产生,任期均为4年。审计长是纽约的首席财务官。公共利益协调官有权发起立法,监督政府机构,负责协调政府公共关系,在市长职位空缺时行使代理市长职能。现任市长白思豪于2014年1月首次当选,2017年11月再次当选。

【经济】纽约市是美国经济中心、金融中心和商业中心,也是世界三大金融中心之一。纽约市的主要产业是金融、高科技、房地产、保险、医疗等。纽约市服务业占地区经济比例达89.9%,主要服务业类别包括法律、会计、金融、管理咨询等。“硅巷”指位于纽约市特别是曼哈顿区不断增长的高科技企业群。

【文化教育】纽约市教育、文化资源丰富,有超过120家高等教育机构,如哥伦比亚大学、库伯联盟学院、福特汉姆大学、纽约大学、纽约理工学院等。纽约市有超过两千家艺术和文化机构和五百多家画廊,是全球电视、广告、音乐、报纸和图书出版业中心城市,也是北美最大的媒体市场。

【交通】纽约市公共交通系统由地铁、城际铁路、公共汽车和渡轮组成,公交出行比例约46%。公共汽车路网遍布城市各行政区,并与地铁路网配合转乘,形成便捷的交通网。纽约有三大机场,肯尼迪国际机场、拉瓜迪亚机场及纽瓦克自由国际机场。纽约港是北美洲最繁忙的港口,亦为世界上天然深水港之一。

【两市交往】1980年2月25日,北京市与纽约市正式建立友好城市关系。2007年,纽约市长迈克尔·布隆伯格访京,与时任市长郭金龙共同签署了《北京市与纽约市关于加强全球伙伴关系的备忘录》。

经贸领域:我市重大项目北京环球度假区正在紧张建设中,纽约NBC环球集团是该项目相关知识产权最主要授权方。2015年,环球度假区项目《合资协议》签约仪式在NBC环球集团纽约总部举行,目前园区建设进展顺利,预计于2021年开园。

城市管理领域:2017年,纽约市代表团出席北京国际大都市清洁空气行动论坛。2018年,纽约交通局派团出席在京举行的世界大城市交通发展论坛。

人文领域:2016年、2017年,我市连续在纽约市成功举办“欢乐春节”活动。2018年,我市在纽约市政厅举办“月圆纽约”旅游推介活动。2019年,包括美国大都会歌剧院、林肯室内乐协会、卡内基音乐厅、茱莉亚音乐学院等纽约艺术机构代表出席我市主办的世界剧院北京论坛。
