[Overview] Buenos Aires is the capital city and political, economic and cultural center of Argentina. Located in the east of Pampas Steppe and bordered by the La Plata River in the east, Buenos Aires covers an area of 203 square kilometers and has a population of 2.89 million. The city and the surrounding 19 districts in the Buenos Aires Province constitute the Greater Buenos Aires that covers 4,326 square kilometers and has a population of 12.8 million, accounting for about one third of the national population.

[Politics] Buenos Aires has a city legislature and a city government. The city legislature consists of 60 members who are directly elected by the constituents for a term of four years, with Diego Santilli being the incumbent president. The mayor of the city is directly elected by the constituents for a term of four years, too. The incumbent mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larreta came into office for a second term on December 9, 2019.

[Economy] Buenos Aires's pillar industries include advertising, finance, real estate, tourism, wholesale, and retail. The 10-kilometer-long Port of Buenos Aires is the country's largest port with an annual throughput of 26 million tons. Beef, grain, wool, leather and flax are the main exports while machinery, iron, steel, fuel and industrial products are the main imports.

[Culture and Education] Buenos Aires has more than 40 universities, and the prestigious University of Buenos Aires has 220,000 enrolled students, accounting for 30 percent of all college students nationwide. The city boasts a raft of cultural and entertaining venues, including 54 theaters, one of which is the world-renowned Teatro Colón, more than 200 cinemas, 66 museums, 38 football clubs, 2 racecourses, 5 TV stations and 2 cable TVs.

[Transportation] Buenos Aires is known as the “Paris of South America,” and both the buildings and lifestyle there are significantly influenced by Europe. There are more than 2,200 streets, 26 parks, 362 squares, 46 large monuments and over 1,100 statues across the city. The famous July 9 Avenue, which is 140 meters wide, is one of the widest streets in the world. A 67-meter-tall monument stands at the center of the avenue. The city boasts convenient transportation thanks to 2 airports, 5 subway lines, 9 rail lines and more than 2.5 million motor vehicles.

[Relations with Beijing] Beijing and Buenos Aires officially became sister cities on July 13, 1993. In 2009, the two cities signed the framework agreement on exchanges and cooperation. They have carried out extensive communication and cooperation in such fields as education and culture over recent years.

Education: In 2014, the Beijing Municipal Education Commission and Buenos Aires Education Bureau co-founded a bilingual school in Buenos Aires, which was the first public full-time Chinese-Spanish school in Argentina. The school strongly boosted the integration of the Chinese community with the local society and the dissemination of Chinese culture.

Culture: In October and November 2001, the city cultural week events held in Beijing and Buenos Aires respectively allowed local citizens to experience the charm of a different culture. In 2019, Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau held the event named “Beijing Audio-Visual Night in Buenos Aires” with a view to promoting mutual learning between cultures through strengthened cooperation in TV, film and audio-visual fields.

布宜诺斯艾利斯市（阿根廷）

【概况】布宜诺斯艾利斯市（以下简称“布市”）是阿根廷首都，全国政治、经济、文化中心。位于潘帕斯平原东部，东临拉普拉塔河，面积203平方公里，人口289万。布市与周边隶属于布宜诺斯艾利斯省的19个区，共同组成了“大布宜诺斯艾利斯”，“大布”占地4326平方公里，人口1280万，约占全国人口的三分之一。

【政治】市级领导机构包括市议会和市政府。市议会由60名议员组成，通过市民直选产生，任期4年，市议会现任主席迭戈·桑蒂利。市长由市民直选产生，任期4年。现任市长奥拉西奥·罗德里格斯·拉雷塔获得连任，于2019年12月9日就职。

【经济】支柱产业有广告、金融、房地产、旅游、批发零售业等。布宜诺斯艾利斯港是阿根廷最大的港口，港口长10公里，年吞吐量2600万吨，主要出口产品有牛肉、谷物、羊毛、皮革、亚麻等，进口产品有机械、钢铁、燃料和工业品等。

【文化教育】布市有40多所大学，著名的国立布宜诺斯艾利斯大学在校学生22万人，占全国大学生总数30%。市区拥有众多文化娱乐场所，其中包括世界著名的哥伦布大剧院等54座剧院，200多家影院，66个博物馆，38个足球俱乐部，2座跑马场。全市共有5家电视台和2家有线电视台。

【交通】布市素有“南美巴黎”之称。城市建筑风格和居民生活方式受欧洲影响较大。布市共有2200多条街道，26个公园，362个大小广场，46座大型纪念碑和1100多座雕塑。布市著名的“七·九”大街，宽140米，是世界上最宽的大街之一，街中心有67米高的城市纪念碑。交通发达，有2座机场，5条地铁线和9条铁路，机动车约250多万辆。

【两市交往】1993年7月13日，北京市与布宜诺斯艾利斯市正式建立友好城市关系。2009年，两市签署交流合作框架协议。近年来，两市在教育、文化等领域开展了广泛的交流与合作。

教育领域：2014年，由市教委与布宜诺斯艾利斯市教育局合作创立的中西文双语学校在布市成立，成为阿根廷第一所公立全日制中西文双语学校，有力促进了华人社区与当地社会的融合以及中国文化的传播和推广。

文化领域：2001年10月和11月，北京市与布宜诺斯艾利斯市先后互办城市文化周，更多市民得以亲身体验对方城市魅力。2019年，市广电局在布宜诺斯艾利斯市成功举办“视听中国·阿根廷·北京之夜”中阿影视交流活动，借助两国影视和视听合作促进文明互鉴。
