China central authorities held 66 symposiums this March in Hong Kong inviting more than 1,000 representatives from political, commercial, financial, professional and labor sectors, as well as the HKSAR government and social organizations, to solicit opinions from Hong Kong society about implementing the NPC's decision on improving the electoral system of the HKSAR.
2. Hong Kong residents' voice widely heard
The electoral system should conform to the policy of "one country, two systems", meet the realities in the HKSAR and serve to ensure that Hong Kong is administered by people who love the country and love Hong Kong. An Election Committee which is broadly representative, suited to the HKSAR's realities, and representative of the overall interests of its society will be established in the HKSAR.
3. Over 2.38 mln signatures collected in Hong Kong for improving electoral system
More than 2.38 million signatures were collected in Hong Kong in support of improving the electoral system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) during an 11-day campaign in March, demonstrating genuine support from the general public in the HKSAR for the central authorities to right the wrongs in Hong Kong.
