Photos taken on May 19, 2021, in the Ancient City of Kashgar, in Kashgar City of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Meet Salanmetgul, a 31-year-old woman from Kashgar city, who shared her story of opening a homestay at the Ancient City of Kashgar. Before 2009, the architecture and infrastructures in the Ancient City of Kashgar were in poor conditions. In addition, there was no sewage system, running water, or private bathrooms. After government renovations, all the houses in the district were rebuilt, this helped the Ancient City to become a famous tourist destination, its popularity giving births to over 2,000 businesses. The renovated Ancient City provided Salanmetgul the opportunity to open her own homestay, which achieved immense success. Right now, the homestay has 15 employees, and Salanmetgul plans to open up more branches in the future. (Junye Zhang/Guangming Picture)
