BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Julian Alvarez scored one goal and set up another as leaders River Plate romped to a 3-0 home win over Argentinos Juniors in Argentina's Primera Division on Monday.

Bruno Zuculini opened the scoring at the Monumental with a 30-yard drive that went in off the underside off the cross bar.

The hosts doubled their lead when Alvarez slotted a low first-time shot past Federico Lanzillota after Braian Romero's unselfish layoff on the counter-attack.

Alvarez returned the favor two minutes later by setting up Romero for an easy tap-in after another fast break.

River are now nine points ahead of second-placed Talleres Cordoba while Argentinos Juniors are in 14th place, 18 points behind the leaders.

In other Primera Division fixtures on Monday, Independiente won 1-0 at home to Union Santa Fe, Talleres drew 3-3 at Lanus, Atletico Tucuman were held to a 2-2 home draw by Patronato, Sarmiento prevailed 2-1 at home to Newell's Old Boys and Aldosivi secured a 2-1 home win over Arsenal Sarandi.
