Commemorating 50th anniversary of restoration of PRC's lawful seat in UN | China always facilitator of cooperation, development

Over the past 50 years, China has used the United Nations as a major platform for cooperation and development with other countries around the world, fulfilling its responsibilities as a major country and sharing development dividends with all parties while achieving its own development.

In the early 1970s, China actively supported the UN in implementing its “Development Decade” strategy and actively promoted the establishment of a new international political and economic order. China has insisted on putting economic construction at the center, deepening reform and opening up, and becoming increasingly integrated into the international economic system. China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) marked its participation in international economic division of labor and cooperation to a greater extent and in greater depth. Now, China has become the world's largest trading country and the second largest economy, and is a main engine of world economic growth. At present, China is accelerating the construction of a new development pattern and implementing a higher level of opening up to the outside world. China is driving the development of the entire region with its own opening up, signing the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) with 14 other countries in the Asia-Pacific and submitting an application to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (CPTPP).

As the world's most populous developing country, China has achieved unprecedented economic growth and social progress through reform and opening up, lifting one fifth of the world's population out of absolute poverty and into prosperity. For 50 years, China has been committed to promoting South-South cooperation, relying on the Group of 77, BRICS and other mechanisms and platforms to help developing countries rise as a group.

Although China is still a developing country, it has always provided assistance to other developing countries in economic difficulties within its capacity. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, China has launched a series of new initiatives to provide foreign aid, upholding the correct concept of righteousness and benefit, as well as the concepts of truthfulness and goodwill.

In the face of the overlapping challenges of the COVID-19 and the unprecedented changes of the century, President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech at the general debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, proposing global development initiatives that insist on development-first, people-centered, inclusiveness, innovation-driven, harmony with nature and action-oriented. China called on the international community to place development at the forefront of the global macro policy framework, accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in order to build the community with a shared future for mankind.
