Thailand has played an important role in international trade due to its state-of-the-art infrastructure, excellent investment environment and strategic location linking sea trade routes in the middle of Southeast Asia.

Bathed in abundant sunshine, Thailand is long known as a major producer and exporter of plenty of tropical fruits and derived products.

At this year's CIIE in Shanghai, Thailand showcased its local characteristic agri-products such as dried mangoes and durian and other light industrial products.

The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is the first national-level import-themed professional trade fair in the world.

Three international organizations and 58 countries from five continents, especially those involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, participate in the Online Country Exhibition.

China has been the biggest trade partner of Thailand in consecutive years.

Thailand, whose pillar sector tourism has tumbled during the pandemic, sees its exports to China a bright spot amid the economic gloom.

In 2020, Thailand's export value of fruit products to China surged 39.43 percent year on year.

The Chinese appetite for Thai durian remains strong during the pandemic. China imported 575,000 tons of durians worth 14.7 billion yuan ($2.2 billion) from Thailand in 2020, up 78 percent year-on-year.

In a world desperate for reopening and recovery, the expo is regarded as a golden gate to enter huge Chinese market. “CIIE creates opportunities for the participating Thai small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to explore the Chinese market and help Thailand's economic recovery,” a Thai commerce official has said.
