U.S. goes top of Junior Pan American Games medal table

CALI, Colombia, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The United States shot to the top of the Junior Pan American Games medal table on Sunday with golds in shooting, archery, weightlifting and gymnastics.

Madray Johnson, David Shamah, Tiana Sumanasekera and Tobias Liang secured victories in gymnastics while Olivia Reeves and Trenton Cowles triumphed in the 76kg weightlifting and individual archery recurve event respectively.

The U.S. also finished top of the podium in the mixed archery recurve, mixed air pistol and mixed air rifle competitions.

Team USA now has 25 gold, 11 silver and 17 bronze medals, ahead of Brazil, which has 23 gold, 15 silver and 23 bronze medals.

Despite the United States' strong performances, Mexico was the most successful team on the third day of competition, clinching 11 gold, nine silver and two bronze medals.

Mexico's gold medals on Sunday were shared between archery (six), swimming (three) and diving (two). Latin America's second most populous nation sits third on the medal table with 22 gold, 38 silver and 15 bronze medals. Enditem
