The Great Wall is a window of China that is well known across the globe. The Great Wall and its stories are attracting visitors from all corners of the world who spare no effort in traveling to Beijing, just for a closer look of the charm this world wonder presents.

On December 22, 2011, the then Polish President Komorowski and his wife Mrs. Komorowski paid their first visit to China, and they climbed the Chinese Great Wall during that trip.

In the visitor book he left these words, "The Chinese people have been hardworking and brave since ancient times. It is a miracle of mankind to build such a strong fortification on such a precipitous mountainous area."

It was the Winter Solstice which coincided with their visit. In Badaling the temperature dropped to minus 8 degrees Celsius. But President Komorowski unbuttoned his suit and stood against the wind on the Great Wall. "I don't feel cold at all. I'm so excited seeing the Great Wall".

Known as one of the Seven Wonders of the Medieval World, the Great Wall is a great miracle created by the Chinese people in ancient times. It was built from the 7th century BC to the 17th century AD over more than 2,000 years. It spans across 15 provinces in northern China. In 1987, the Great Wall was included in the "World Heritage List" by the UNESCO.

When we admire our own great wonders and cultural landmarks, we find that they also astonish people from other nations and ethnicities, those with different skin colors and speaking different languages. Because these great masterpieces belong to the entire mankind.

"China is a great country with a profound history and magnificent buildings like the Great Wall", said President Komorowski while touching the wall's bricks. After learning what Chairman Mao wrote in the poem "He who doesn't reach the Great Wall is not a hero", he said gladly, "Thank you China, thank you the Chinese people, because I’m now a hero in China".
