Growing with Hong Kong: Celebrating HKSAR 25th Anniversary

Jiang Yang: When every one of us is good, then Hong Kong is in good shape

In 2018, I got enrolled by the Peking University without examination through its Liberal Arts Talent Program. Only a few designated schools are qualified to recommend students directly to the PKU. And I became the first person to study in the Mainland since my school was founded 35 years ago.

From the age of 15 to 18, I was involved in over 20 student exchange groups, I also helped over 1,000 Hong Kong students to learn about the mainland, and students from the mainland to learn about Hong Kong. Since coming to the mainland for university, I have given 20 to 30 presentations to share my story. I recently participated in the National Video Competition for College Students, where I represented PKU and won the Grand Prize among more than 150 entries from 90 universities. My video work was called “My China Story Shared with Songs”. On July 1, I released my first MV, containing the songs I wrote and composed. The MV was edited by me and released through a production company I contacted on my own. The album was called “Zijing”. I invited 25 young students from PKU, Tsinghua, Renmin University, Beijing Normal University, the Communication University of China, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Chinese University of Hong Kongto to sing together to in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the return of Hong Kong to the motherland.

I feel like I am a symbol, a cultural symbol. I love singing and dancing, and I’m also a young patriot loving my motherland dearly, and I’m a person of positive energy. In the mainland, I am spreading the culture of Hong Kong, and I let my friends here know the style of the young people in Hong Kong. I also let my friends in Hong Kong know that I’m doing well in the mainland and there are opportunities everywhere in the mainland. “One country, Two systems” are an unprecedented practice in the world, and Hong Kong is good shape as long as we’re all in good shape. When I show my demeanor and speak the voice of Hong Kong for its young people, I’m actually amplifying the voice of China.

I will create more good works in the future and continue to show the charm of Chinese youth in the new era. At the same time, more foreign friends can feel the patriotism from the Chinese youth in Hong Kong.
