BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.19 percent to 3,044.38 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.43 percent lower at 11,027.24 points.
The turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 758.4 billion yuan (about 106.66 billion U.S. dollars), down from 792.4 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the shipping, education and e-commerce industries led the gains, while those related to breeding and fuel gas posted lackluster performances.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.86 percent to close at 2,425.96 points.
