CPC 101: Comprehensively Building a Moderately Prosperous Society

In 2012, based on the economic and social reality of China, the 18th Communist Party of China National Congress set the goal of comprehensively building a moderately prosperous society. The Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee set the elimination of poverty among the rural population as the basic symbol of a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPCCC has increased funding support for poverty alleviation and come up with innovative approaches. In 2013, during a visit to Hunan Province, Xi Jinping put forward for the first time the important concept of “precision poverty-alleviation”. Xi attached great importance to poverty eradication, his corresponding inspection trips have covered all the 14 contiguous poor areas across the country, and he has presided over seven symposiums on poverty eradication in such places as Shaanxi, Guizhou and Ningxia.

By November 23, 2020, 832 counties in China had been lifted out of poverty. China had lifted nearly 100 million people out of poverty in eight years, eliminating absolute poverty and regional poverty, which was a great feat recorded in the history of human development.

In addition, Chinese economy and technology, comprehensive national strength and people’s living standards have jumped to a new height, and historic achievements have been made in transforming China into a moderately prosperous society on all fronts.

China’s theory and practice of building a moderately prosperous society in all aspects have opened up new horizons for socialist development, expanded the path of developing countries transitioning into modern societies, and contributed Chinese wisdom and solutions to problems facing humanity.
