BUENOS AIRES, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Veteran forward Pablo Vegetti scored twice as Belgrano kept alive their hopes of a top-four finish with a 3-1 home win over Banfield in Argentina's Primera Division on Monday.
Vegetti opened the scoring by nodding home after an Ulises Sanchez cross but Alejandro Rebola gifted the visitors an equalizer when he inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
Belgrano restored their lead through another Vegetti header and Franco Jara made it 3-1 with a cool finish on the counterattack.
The result leaves Belgrano seventh with 34 points from 21 matches, 16 points behind leaders River Plate but only three points shy of fourth-placed Lanus.
Banfield, who have now lost three consecutive games, are 27th in the 28-team standings with 18 points.
