City library becomes summer “recharging” place for citizens

“The library opens at 9am and I am already here at 8:30am to claim a good seat.” Ms. Wang said when being interviewed by a reporter on July 11, 2023. As the summer holiday approaches, the flow of people into the library greatly increases at Jizhou District Library in Ji’an City in east China’s Jiangxi Province.

Walking into the library, round tree-shaped hollow bookshelves stand in midair, each shell is neatly arranged with all kinds of books, and at the same time divided into children’s picture book reading area, adult reading area, and digital reading area. These reading areas with different functions are convenient for people with different needs.

Li Yalin, Director of Jizhou District Library introduced to reporters that the digital reading leisure area has many functions, where readers can listen to music, retrieve the location of the book query, and also use e-reading advice, which is very convenient.

“Since we are very busy during workdays, summer time gives us a chance to both meet the demand for reading and also to relax our body,” said Mr. Liu.

In the parent-children reading experience zone, puzzles, Rubik’s cubes, blocks and other educational toys are placed on the cartoon tables. Li Yalin says that the area mainly has children’s picture books, parent-child interaction and handicraft activities, to cultivate children’s interest in reading, improve their imagination, and enhance their language skills.
