Due to the improvement of ecological and environmental protection in recent years, the western part of Northeast China's Jilin province has seen more rare migratory birds roosting and searching for food in spring and autumn.

With its favorable geographical location and wetlands, Jilin is an important stop for migratory waterfowl, including large numbers of rare species, such as white cranes, red-crowned cranes, Oriental white storks and Chinese merganser ducks.

Western Jilin has focused on water management and initiated major projects such as river and lake connectivity in the past decade to reverse the trend of ecological deterioration.
