Deserts, glaciers, oases, ancient cities…… Here, in Shule and Kashi, the sands of time have gracefully flowed through millennia, carrying forth the thread of civilization. Seven centuries ago, following the resonating echoes of camel bells along the ancient Silk Road, Marco Polo embarked on his journey through China from Kashi, unraveling the mysteries of the East with his captivating travelogue, and opening a gateway to the land of mysteries for Europeans.
Civilizations have become richer and more colorful amid exchanges and mutual learning. As we revisit the millennia-old Silk Road in Kashi, a rich tapestry of integration and exchanges between civilizations unfurls before our eyes.
In Han Dynasty, pioneering explorers blazed a trail initiating nascent mercantile exchanges. Through the haze of warfare, the Silk Road opened a gateway for reciprocal commercial interactions between civilizations.
At the High Tang, the Silk Road thrived further with envoys, merchants, and scholars converging in Chang'an, hence the poetic depiction, "The grand gates of palaces swing open, revealing individuals from all nations adorned in fine attire".
During Ming Dynasty, Zheng He led fleets to voyage seven times overseas, gifting treasures from China, and fostering tales of peaceful, friendly exchanges with people of various nations.
A single flower does not make spring. Arrogance and prejudice impede the exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations. One hundred flowers in full bloom bring spring to the garden. Equality and inclusiveness emerge as the keys to genuinely appreciating the essence of diverse civilizations.
In today's world, profound changes unseen in a century are unfolding in unprecedented ways. Time calls upon us to embrace cultural exchanges and transcend boundaries, foster mutual understanding to avert clash of civilizations, and to embrace diversity instead of notions of civilization superiority.
