SYDNEY, Feb. 29 (Xinhua) -- Australian police have confirmed that a man was seriously injured after a shooting in Sydney's southwest overnight.

At about 12:10 a.m. local time on Thursday, emergency services were called to an address on Donnelly Street in Guildford, a suburb located approximately 20 km west of Sydney's central business district.

On arrival, officers located a 40-year-old man suffering serious injuries.

According to the New South Wales Police Force, the man was believed to have been shot by an unknown person from a vehicle that came to a stop in front of the address before leaving the location.

Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before he was transported to a hospital in a stable condition.

Police noted that with a crime scene already established, a strike force was also deployed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Sydney has been plagued with frequent shootings this week.

On Wednesday, a 79-year-old offender fired a semi-automatic pistol inside an office building on Castlereagh Street in the bustling city center, which left a 77-year-old man injured at the scene.

In addition, a man was shot dead on Stella Street in Fairfield Heights on Tuesday morning.
