Welcome to the video series A Glimpse of China with Sue! This time let's take a look at China's big moves in 2023. China has made steady progress in every sector, from the economy to social life. Now let's dive into agricultural production!
In 2023, the sown area of grain was 118.97 million hectares, an increase of 640,000 hectares compared with that in 2022. The increase in planting area is an important factor contributing to the increase in grain output.
China's grain output rose 1.3 percent year on year to a record high of 695.41 million tonnes in 2023. This is the 9th consecutive year for China to register a grain harvest of over 650 million tonnes.
China also focused on quality farm produce. The area of high-standard farmland newly developed and upgraded was 5.74 million hectares, and 1.64 million hectares of farmland was newly equipped with water-saving irrigation systems.
