AMMAN, May 22 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan and Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said stressed on Wednesday the urgent need to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

During their talks held in the Jordanian capital Amman, they also underlined the importance of protecting civilians and enhancing the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to all parts of the strip without obstruction or delay, according to a statement issued by the Royal Hashemite Court.

The two sides also expressed their pride in the deep-rooted historical relations that bind the two countries and their peoples.

They stressed the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation in all fields, with a particular focus on investment and economic sectors.

The two leaders also exchanged views on various regional and international issues, especially the situation in the Gaza Strip.

King Abdullah reiterated the importance for the international community to take immediate and urgent action to halt the worsening humanitarian disaster in the enclave.

He warned of the dangers of the Israeli military operation in Rafah and its potential to exacerbate the conflict in the entire region.

The Jordanian king also underlined the importance of finding a political horizon to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the two-state solution and supporting the Palestinians in obtaining their full legitimate rights, and establishing their independent state on the June 4, 1967 border, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
