Since its official opening on July 1, 2006, Lhasa Railway Station has been a cornerstone of transportation on the plateau, serving as a vital link between southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region and the rest of the world. The construction of this station was not merely an infrastructure project; it marked the dawn of a new era, signaling Xizang's entry into the railway age.

Today, Lhasa Railway Station stands as one of China's busiest transportation hubs, welcoming and sending off thousands of passengers daily. Over the years, the station has grown in prominence as Xizang has emerged as a popular tourist destination. By 2024, the station has transported over 25.68 million passengers, a testament to the countless memorable journeys and cherished memories it has facilitated.

Wang Fu, the stationmaster of the Lhasa Railway Station, reflects on the station's growth and impact. "Since the opening of the Lhasa-Nyingchi Railway, I have been at Lhasa Station for almost three years. This year, we have already sent 1.7 million passengers, a 10% increase over the same period last year. Our annual passenger volume has continually grown from hundreds of thousands since 2006 to over 3 million last year, and we expect to reach around 3.2 million this year. This change has greatly contributed to the economic development of Xizang Autonomous Region."

The station has seen a significant increase in the number of trains, from just a few pairs a day to dozens, reflecting not only the growth in passenger numbers but also improvements in service quality and convenience. At an altitude of 3,650 meters, Lhasa Railway Station is one of the highest stations in China. To cater to passengers who are not accustomed to the high altitude, the station features a health service center providing oxygen and other essential services.

"Lhasa sits at an altitude of 3,650 meters, making Lhasa Railway Station one of the highest stations in China. As you can see, we have a health service center at the station providing oxygen and other services, particularly for those who are not accustomed to the high altitude. We offer special services for passengers with health conditions, ensuring a safe and pleasant journey," Wang Fu added.

Lhasa Railway Station is more than just a transportation hub; it is the starting point of countless beautiful memories. Looking ahead, the station will continue to enhance its services and passenger experience, playing a pivotal role in driving the development of Xizang Autonomous Region.
