Edmund Gregory Hinkson, member of the Barbados Parliament, emphasized the importance of enhanced relations between China and the Global South in a recent interview. Hinkson highlighted the shared challenges faced by small island developing states like Barbados, particularly in dealing with increasingly severe hurricanes and other adverse weather conditions.
He praised China's efforts in reducing pollution and advancing science, technology, and innovation, noting how China has been a key player in assisting developing nations. Hinkson acknowledged China's role as a member of BRICS and its alignment with the Global South, expressing optimism about the future of China’s partnerships with developing countries.
Hinkson stressed that global progress cannot be achieved if only a handful of Global North countries advance while others remain underdeveloped. He urged for a more inclusive approach to global development, one that benefits all nations, particularly those in the Global South.
