Urjoon Chaya, Senior Social Security Officer at the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity of Mauritius, highlighted the role of agricultural technologies in promoting poverty reduction during a visit to southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
Chaya noted that Mauritius faces severe challenges due to climate change, such as flash floods and cyclones, which heavily impact agriculture while threatening to push vulnerable communities back into poverty.
The officer suggested that Chinese expertise could help Mauritius develop resilient crops capable of withstanding extreme weather conditions. She stressed that adopting techniques like terracing could significantly enhance food security and reduce poverty in Mauritius.
