In an interview with Guangming Online, Tlohang Sekhamane, Speaker of the National Assembly of Lesotho, shared his observations on China's impressive transformation since his first visit to Beijing in 2004. He noted that the city's development is a reflection of China's broader commitment to continuous progress. Sekhamane expressed acknowledgement for Chinese modernization, which he believes is suited to the Chinese context but can be replicated by other nations, particularly in Africa. He emphasized that many countries, including those in Africa, should look to China's pragmatic approach to development.
Sekhamane highlighted China's non-coercive approach to global cooperation, emphasizing that China invites countries to learn from its progress without forcing its values on others. He appreciated China's transparent and accommodating spirit, which fosters mutual respect and peaceful relations. China, he noted, offers assistance to developing nations without seeking domination, positioning itself as a supportive partner to countries in the Global South, including those in Africa.
Sekhamane pointed out that Lesotho has benefited from infrastructure projects with China's help, including the construction of the national convention center and a crucial mountain road. He underscored that these projects, along with China's broader assistance to African countries, are improving the livelihoods of people and contributing to regional development. Sekhamane concluded that China's approach to development is one of mutual benefit and partnership, creating opportunities for smaller countries to participate in the global development process.
