RAMALLAH, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Six Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrike and gunfire during two separate incidents in the northern West Bank, Palestinian sources said Thursday.
"The bodies of four people and three injured individuals arrived at Thabet Governmental Hospital in Tulkarm city," the Ramallah-based Palestinian Health Ministry said in a brief statement.
Tulkarm Governor Mustafa Taqatqa told Xinhua that an Israeli drone bombed a vehicle in the Tulkarm refugee camp, leading to the deaths of four people whose identities have not yet been determined.
Palestinian civil defense workers rushed to the bombing site to extinguish the vehicle fire and recover the bodies, according to local sources and eyewitnesses.
Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a press statement that, in a joint operation by the army and the General Security Service, an Air Force plane targeted Tulkarm in the Menashe Brigade area. He did not provide further details.
Earlier, two Palestinians, including an elderly woman, were killed by Israeli army fire in the Balata refugee camp east of Nablus city.
The Health Ministry stated that "Halima Abu Lail, 80, was killed after Israeli troops shot into her chest and leg, and a young man, whose identity is not yet known, was also killed."
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a press statement that its workers transported three people injured by live bullets to the hospital.
Local sources told Xinhua that Israeli forces stormed the camp, supported by reinforcements including patrols and armored vehicles. Israeli troops were also deployed in several neighborhoods to arrest wanted Palestinians.
The sources added that clashes erupted within the camp's neighborhoods, during which army forces fired live bullets, tear gas, and sound bombs, killing the elderly woman and injuring three others.
The cities, camps, and villages of the West Bank have experienced escalating tensions since the outbreak of the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023.
