China's economic, social progress in 2024: Stable national economy with steady growth

The year 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and is a key year for achieving the goals and targets outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan. China has taken new and solid strides for Chinese modernization.

Faced with a complex and grave environment featuring greater external pressure and increasing internal difficulties, China’s national economy was generally stable with steady progress made.

According to preliminary estimates, the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024 was 134,908.4 billion yuan, up 5.0 percent over the previous year. Of this total, the value added of the primary industry was 9,141.4 billion yuan, that of the secondary industry was 49,208.7 billion yuan, and that of the tertiary industry was 76,558.3 billion yuan.

The per capita GDP in 2024 was 95,749 yuan, up by 5.1 percent over the previous year. The gross national income was 133,967.2 billion yuan, up 5.1 percent over the previous year. The overall labor productivity was 173,898 yuan per person, up by 4.9 percent over the previous year. The consumer price went up by 0.2 percent over the previous year.
