In a recent interview with Guangming Online, Kilnam Chon, “Father of internet in South Korea” and honorary professor of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, presents China’s digital progress as a model for the Global South, noting its 78% internet penetration (66.5% in rural areas) by mid-2024.
He praises China’s success in narrowing urban-rural gaps and advocates for its expanded role in reducing global digital divides. Initiatives like the Wuzhen World Internet Conference and Asia-Pacific Advanced Network exemplify China’s commitment to global internet governance and technical collaboration.
Moving forward, Chon expects China to intensify efforts in bridging international digital disparities, promoting deeper cooperation, and sharing its digital achievements with developing nations.
